Twenty Six More COVID-19 Cases in San Pedro, Belize at 414 Active Cases

After a few days of not recording any new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, the Ministry of Health in Belize announced last night, Saturday, August 15, 2020, 26 cases for the island out of a whopping 257 samples that were processed.

There are now 414 active COVID-19 cases in the country with more cases popping up around the country except in the Toledo District with only once case for a while now. San Pedro had not seen any new cases reported for three days and residents were wondering what was going on. According to Dr. Canul of San Pedro, the flu center on the island was swabbing low amounts, but that priority was being given to the elderly and those with underlying conditions. The most recent results were from pending tests sent from August 12.

The teams on the ground continue to review the data to determine how many of these are relate to previously identified clusters and as information becomes available, it will be shared in due time. Two patients continue to be ventilated at KHMH where there is also a highly suspect case.

Two patients remain hospitalized at the district and are stable, there is a third patient hospitalized (COVID-19 positive) for an unrelated condition. Please continue to remain safe and avoid unnecessary exposure / travel.

Yesterday’s data reports 64 new cases in Belize.  The preliminary breakdown is as follows:

  • – 3 cases in the Stann Creek district
  • – 11 cases in the Cayo district
  • – 11 cases in the Orange Walk District
  • – 13 cases in the Belize district (excluding San Pedro)
  • – 26 cases in San Pedro
