The San Pedro Fire Department can now boast the second largest fleet of fire trucks in the country as a donation of twin trucks boosted its fleet to four fire trucks. The donation took place today, Thursday, December 12, 2019, at the San Pedro Fire Station where Hon. Edmund Castro, Hon. Manuel Heredia and Mayor Daniel Guerrero officially accepted the donation from Casa de la Caye Villas.
Representative of Casa de la Caye Villas, Rich Scott, handed over the keys to the two fire trucks to the San Pedro Fire Department and participated in the ribbon cutting during the event. Hon. Manuel Heredia, Area Representative and Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation, stressed the fact that it will be his task, along with Minister Castro, to lobby Central Government to assist in assigning more firemen to Ambergris Caye.
Hon. Castro, Minister of Transport and National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO), reiterated the sentiments of Hon. Heredia and stated that Government is extremely grateful to Casa de la Caye Villas for their kind gesture to the people of San Pedro, a growing community that really needs the support of a strong fire department. He will look into having new recruitment for the fire department and work on increasing the number of volunteer fire fighters.
Mayor Daniel Guerrero says that the San Pedro Town Council will now take it upon itself to secure a location in both North and South Ambergris Caye, where each fire truck will service the two growing areas of the island and expand the services of the San Pedro Fire Department.
