The Right Honourable Dean Barrow, Prime Minister of Belize, on Tuesday, September 3, 2019, sent a message of condolence and solidarity to the Government and people of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas following the devastation wrought by Hurricane Dorian, a Category 5 storm on September 1st, 2019.
Cabinet agreed, at its meeting today, to make a contribution of US$100,000 to the Commonwealth of The Bahamas to assist in the recovery efforts.
The Government of Belize has confirmed with Belize Electricity Limited that they stand ready to make available personnel to assist with the restoration of electricity. As well, the Belize Defence Force is prepared to send a contingent to help with security if requested by the Government of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas.
The Government encourages all Belizeans who wish to offer assistance to the people of The Bahamas to do so through local relief initiatives being undertaken by reliable agencies, businesses, or organizations.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims of this catastrophic storm who may have lost loved ones and who have had their homes and properties destroyed.
