September Celebrations are in full swing across the Nation and on Friday, September 14, 2018, a children’s rally was held at the Rafael Angel Nunez Auditorium where hundreds of students from all across the island gathered in celebration.
The San Pedro Roman Catholic School opened the event with a lovely rendition of Belize’s National Anthem followed by the National Prayer recited by New Horizons SDA School. Welcome address was delivered by San Pedro’s Children Advisory Board President, Ms. Karissa Vasquez which was followed by a re-enactment of the Battle of St. Geroge’s Caye and Independence Day skit by Ambergris Caye Elementary School.
The first form class of 1A recited a poem entitled “Belize”, San Pedro RC School performed Indian-themed dance, Holy Cross Anglican School delivered a beautiful dramatized poem entitled “The History Lives on” , followed by a very patriotic marching drill by New Horizon SDA. Closing the performances by the schools, Isla Bonita entertained the crowd with a dance.
San Pedro High School student Alan Ayala addressed students with a motivational speech. "We all must be facing difficult times at the moment," he commented. "We must trust in God and change ourselves and not try to change others but most importantly we must believe in ourselves. Be productive and make your parents proud! Go for what you want and be appreciative of what you have.”
Guillermo Rodriguez was an invited guest who performed motivational and beautiful gospel songs for all to enjoy. Deputy Mayor Ruben Gonzalez, along with Ms. Odelia Caliz of the Ministry of Education, handed out certificates of appreciation to participating schools and closing remarks were delivered by SPHS student Faith Noel. Masters of Ceremony for the event were Jorge Aldana and Ninelle Pacheco.
