Jacinta Gomez and Celeshia Guy off to earn Master’s Degrees in natural resource management
Oceana in Belize is proud to announce that two of its employees have been awarded academic scholarships to study natural resource management in the United Kingdom and the United States respectively.
Jacinta Gomez, Outreach Program Director, has been awarded a Chevening Scholarship to pursue a Master’s Degree in Environment and Development at the London School of Economics in the United Kingdom. Simultaneously, Belize District Field Representative Celeshia Guy will be studying towards a Master’s Degree in Coastal Science and Policy at the University of California, Santa Cruz in the United States.
Celeshia shares, “I am taking all the experiences and support as a Field Representative for Oceana into this next chapter of my academic career. I look forward to returning to Belize to win more victories for our oceans.” Jacinta echoes similar sentiments. “My time as an advocate for the tens of thousands of Belizeans who depend on our marine resources has been inspiring. I am embarking on this journey fully confident that the skills and knowledge I gain will serve Belize well in the future.”
Vice President for Oceana in Belize Janelle Chanona commended both young women on their commitment to furthering their education. “The entire Oceana Belize team is extremely proud of both Jacinta and Celeshia. They have already proven their leadership capacity. We look forward to having them return to Belize to advance national efforts at sustainable development for the benefit of all Belizeans and her future generations.”
Both Gomez and Guy are scheduled to depart Belize in September.
