Many travel from across the world to dive the wonders that our majestic Caribbean sea has to offer, some of us who live here have never even explored it. With this in mind PADI was more than pleased to support a kid’s diving program here on the island.
For two weeks they had to study and carry out dives with their instructors, working towards their Junior Open Water Diver certifications. This had them engaging with marine life, building character and self-confidence and forming a greater appreciation for the planet.
For ten days they had to study and carry out dives with their instructors. Students carried out dives at famous sites on the island including Tuffy, Bottom Time and Mermaid’s Lair. Friendly shark encounters and a beautiful Green turtle were just some of the majestic creatures the students got to dive with.
On Saturday, June 28, 2018, the students of the Kids in Action program gave back to the community and helped to clean the Mosquito Coast Park. This park is used by many tour guides for beach picnics. After the clean-up and a delicious lunch the kids were taken as a group to do a fun dive at Hol Chan Marine Reserve.
Children had a great time in company of each other and demonstrated that they were quite skilled and very knowledgeable of what they were doing, when it came to having their gear ready and listening to their dive instructors.
After their dive a graduation ceremony at the San Pedro High School where students were presented with their certificates of completion of the course. Congratulations to all the students who partook in this diving summer camp and a huge thank you to PADI, the San Pedro Tour Guide Association, San Pedro Tour Operators Association and Hol Chan Marine Reserve for having the children of San Pedro at heart and giving them this awesome opportunity to learn about the magnificent wonders of the underwater world.
