San Pedro High School celebrated Career Week from Monday, February 12, 2108 to Friday, February 16, 2018 under the theme “It’s a beautiful thing when a career and a passion come together”, it was a week full of events including general assemblies with motivating speakers, students dressing up and an unforgettable closing ceremony.
Students got to hear a very motivational and fun general assembly with a very popular Belizean person, Oceana Belize’s Janelle Chanona. Janelle spoke to the student body about her studies, her dreams and her goals. She shared with them how she wanted to be a marine biologist but while studying she crossed paths in the journalist field and found out she can be a lawyer, a marine biologist and much more while in that field. She loved her job even though it wasn't what she had dreamed of becoming she then became the chairperson of Oceana Belize where she has become and advocate to help save our beautiful Barrier Reef.
Janelle asked students what where their aspirations and assured them that it was ok if they didn't know what they wanted to be. She held a fun interactive game where she taught them that life works in mysterious ways and once you are determined to work for what you want you will always find a way to achieve your goals. She encouraged students to work on becoming someone who will bring change for the betterment of themselves and their environment.
On Friday, February 16, 2018, the entire student body participated on "rock the runway" as they dressed up as doctors, nurses, computer technicians, architects, construction workers, transportation workers, secretaries, tourism sector workers amongst others. Some classes were very creative and acted out skits which had everyone laughing and having a good time.
Special guest speaker and performer was Belize's very own soca artist Ms. Ernestine Carballo. After a short motivational speech and judging the runway show, Ms Carballo gave a great performance and had everyone dancing and cheering. Congratulations to the classes of 2C & 2H and 3A & 4G on winning the Walk the Runway competition.
