After the tragic death of Faye Lin Cannon in the community of San Pedro, residents became more aware of the importance of the children’s home that is currently being constructed on Ambergris Caye.
Over the weekend Raise Me Up held a couple fundraising efforts in order to successfully complete the Hope Haven Children’s Home. On Friday, July 14, a radiothon, dollar dive and food sale managed to raise a total of $19,000 with the assistance of the businesses and community support.
The dollar drive continued on Saturday with food and pastry sales at the San Pedro Lions Den. At the end of the day an additional $6,515 was raised. With the help of volunteers who spend both days arduously encouraging the entire community to donate a grand total of $ 25,515 was raised towards the children’s home.
Hope Haven was found by Raise Me Up and the San Pedro Lions Club after seeing the necessity of placing children who are being abused and neglected at home and giving them a place were they feel safe and loved.
Raise Me Up president, Britney O’ Daniel, would like to thank everyone who supported in some way. Special thanks to the San Pedro Leo Members and the San Pedro Lions for being their main supporter and providing the land for this new Children’s home.
