The Ministry of Health reminds the public to be aware of the dangers of Dengue and Zika that as we enter the rainy season. These infectious diseases are transmitted by the bite of Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes. Both mosquitoes are most active in early morning and late afternoon.

Activities that should be done to prevent Dengue and Zika include:

§  Avoid having containers that can collect water in your yard, especially tires;

§  Cover water storage containers such as drums; and

       §  Change the water in flower pots every 4 or 5 days.

These are ideal breeding sites for mosquitoes. Eliminating such breeding sites in and around the yard, can help you and your family to avoid Dengue and Zika.

Dengue and Zika begin with sudden onset of high fever. Other signs and symptoms include:

§  Rash

§  Joint pain

 §  Eye pain

§  Redness of the eye

If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, we advise you to visit your nearest health facility. The public is also encouraged to use mosquito repellent spray to avoid mosquito bites.

Do your part by preventing mosquito breeding!
