Lions, youths, friends, and the general public are all invited to attend the 29th Lions Zone 59 Convention, which will be taking place in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, this weekend, from Friday, April 28 to Sunday the 30th. The yearly gala event for the Lions of Belize was last held in San Pedro in 2001, during the 24th Zone 59 Convention.
This Friday night will see the special inauguration opening ceremonies with the clubs’ cultural presentations and hospitality booths. Guests will be able to enjoy and taste a variety of food and snacks from each Lions Club booth, including the all-time favorites such as conch ceviche, conch soup, fish fingers, fish empanadas, tamalitos, pastries, and drinks such as coco-loco, panty-rippers, and rum punch. Gift souvenirs and many other “antojitos” will also be available.
Educational seminars will be taking place during the morning on Saturday and during the afternoon, visits to the Hol Chan Marine Reserve and Shark Ray Alley will be made. In the evening, the great Lions Queen Pageant presentations will take place along with entertainment by the San Pedro Dance Company. The night will be completed with the sounds of the mighty Youth Connection Band.
Sunday morning will have the grand picturesque parade and floats through the streets of town, ending at Boca del Rio Park. All are invited to support a worthy cause and support the youths of tomorrow. This year’s theme is “Lions and Youth, Keeping the Passion of Service Burning.”
