Food Festival Announced

In keeping with its commitment of boosting tourism year round, the San Pedro Business Association (SPBA) has announced The Ambergris Caye Food Festival to take place the last week of January.

With the success of the Lobster Festival in June of last year, this new Food Festival is another initiative of the SPBA to keep attracting visitors to the island and making a name for San Pedro abroad.

The Ambergris Caye Food Festival is scheduled to commence on Sunday, January 20, and run through to Saturday, January 26, 2008, with an event taking place at a different restaurant each evening of the duration of the festival. These will be announced in the next few days. Any restaurant wishing to host an event can contact the SPBA for more details.

The Ambergris Caye Food Festival will culminate with a Town Block Party on Saturday, January 26 at Central Park where there will be live entertainment and music. There will be 12 booth spaces available for the block party which cost $250.00Bze each. This cost includes a tent, table and fee for liquor license extension.

The night of the block party there will be three competitions:

1. Each booth can compete for in the “Best Dish” and the “Best Dessert” categories. These categories will be judged by a panel of judges as well as by the general public who will be able to vote at an official voting booth.

2. The second competition will be a “Chef Showcase.” where there will be around four to six chefs competing for the title of “Ambergris Caye Food Festival Chef 2008”. The chefs will each be provided with a station and at the beginning of the competition they will be given a secret ingredient. They must then showcase this ingredient in two dishes. They will have one hour to prepare the two dishes for the panel of judges. While they are preparing the dishes the audience will be able to watch and there will be a MC giving a “play by play” of the chefs’ progress.

3. Included in the competition will also be a bartending competition, again with a secret ingredient.

There will be prizes awarded for the winning chefs, dishes, and drinks, including prizes for things like the best decorated booth and most creative theme. The event is a great time for San Pedro’s hotels and restaurants to showcase their talented chefs and bartenders. Anyone wanting to participate or sponsor can contact the SPBA at: phone (501) 226.4474 or email: info@sanpedrobusiness.com. More updates to come through Ambergris Today Newspaper.
