Talk about a New Year resolution - The San Pedro Lions Club along with Raise me up will commence a new important journey together for the community as they work on transform the old Lions Clinic building into a children’s home.

Raise Me Up is one of the island’s newest non-profit organizations that operates the food bank, the literacy program at Holy Cross, the adopt-a-bear program, the boat parade, the haunted house, the kids club after school program and this year it was also in charge of the San Mateo hurricane re-building project. The children’s home is their newest project that they will tackle in the coming year; it is set to provide a household for 36 children.

The Lions Club building served as San Pedro’s very first clinic. Although small, it’s doors were open to hundreds of residence for many years. When construction of the Dr. Otto Rodriquez Poly Clinic commences, the Lion’s clinic was used as a residence for the doctors and nurses who would come from the mainland to provide their services. Currently, it is rented out to a private businesses but will once again be transformed for the use of the community in a great project by the San Pedro Lions and Raise Me Up.

Once the children’s home is open, tutoring, counseling, therapy, and different activities will be provided by a permanent counselor, therapist and children psychiatrist from the USA. Even more good news is that Lions and Raise Me Up are teaming up with the SHINE girls club to provide more essential servies and productive programs for the youth in the community.

Much work will be needed from volunteers, friends and businesses who would want to see the children’s home become a reality for the community. Those interested in helping, donating, or volunteering in the repair of the old building can contact any Lion member or Raise Me Up at 607-1765 or 630-1241 (visit Web Page)

All three organizations wish to thank all who have already donated and are partaking in this project., including various sponsors from the US. More updates and special announcements on work projects for the Children’s Home will become available as soon as plans are complete and the project kicks off. We all hope to get the full support of the community in this amazing project.
