The International Regional Organization for Health in Agriculture (OIRSA) handed over to the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Forestry, Environment and Sustainable Development eighty-two (82) packs of hybrid tomato and sweet pepper seeds as support to the small farmers that were affected by the passage of Hurricane Earl in early August of this year.
The seeds included varieties of sweet pepper and tomato that are tolerant to whitefly transmitted Gemini virus, late producing varieties and are high yielding.
The Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of Agriculture received the seed and thanked OIRSA for the generous contribution valued at ten thousand dollars ($10,000) and assured that the farmers will benefit from the donation. The seeds come in an opportune time when the farmers are planting these types of seed.
The handing over was done by OIRSA country representative Mr. Fermin Blanco. Accompanying the CEO was Mr. Andrew Harrison, Chief Agricultural Officer.
