Belize Telemedia Limited (BTL) announced on Friday, November 27, 2015, that the company is in the final stages of selecting its mobile network vendor to build out and launch its Mobile LTE network in 2016.
The new mobile LTE network is expected to be among the fastest, most robust mobile data networks in the Americas, as the company plans to take full advantage of advances in LTE technology and equipment.
“Our ambition at BTL is to catapult Belize to the top of the region in terms of the quality and speed of both mobile and landline broadband speeds,” noted Anwar Barrow, Chairman of the BTL Executive Committee. “Our customers – business and residential – are using their mobile devices more and more to access the internet on the go. They demand and expect to be able to stream YouTube and Netflix, play games, do video conference calls and conduct business in a seamless way whether they are at work, at home or out on the road.”
“And it is important that we at BTL meet and exceed their demand for mobile data bandwidth and speeds. Our planned investment in mobile LTE will give them speed 10 to 20 times faster than what they get today. And this will allow them to do anything they want to do…plus a whole lot more. The performance and coverage of our LTE network will be among the best in the entire region,” added Barrow.
The company expects to finalize the selection of its LTE vendor in a matter of weeks and to begin deployment of the new network shortly thereafter.
BTL is also presently making a significant investment of millions of dollars to upgrade its 4G network in the face of overwhelming demand for its mobile data product. These upgrades are intended to be completed before end of year and will boost the performance and speed of the 4G network throughout the country.
