In order to improve the effectiveness of the Police Department and other law enforcement agencies in Belize, a Prosecutors’ Course is being conducted at the National Police Training Academy in Belmopan.
 
The two-week training course started on Monday, April 22, 2013 and concludes next week Friday, May 5, 2013. It is being attended by over 25 persons from various branches of the Police Department and other law enforcement agencies including the Fisheries Department and Municipal Traffic. Combining theory and practical training, the course covers a wide range of topics, including Judicial Procedures, Interpretation of Statutes, Common Law, the Evidence Act and Handling of Evidence, Case File Analysis and Criminal Court Procedures.
 
Among the facilitators and presenters are a number of public and private attorneys, as well as magistrates.  
 
The course is being coordinated by National Police Director of Training, Senior Superintendent Miguel Guzman; Commandant of the National Police Training Academy, Superintendent Lynden Flowers; Chief Inspector of the Training Academy, Sergeant Gerald Jones; and Officer in Charge of the Police Training Support Unit, Inspector Eusebio Lanza.
