In January of this year San Pedro welcomed a new Officer in Charge for the San Pedro Police Department, Superintendent Luis Castellanos. He brought with him a positive mind, attitude and determination to bring good positive changes to our community and police department.
Ambergris Today met with Mr. Castellanos to check how the department has been operating, what changes have been made and to welcome six new officers to the San Pedro Police Department. With the addition of the six new officers San Pedro now counts with 39 Police Officers.
Supt. Castellanos personally introduced us to three new officers who were on duty - PC Epifanio Bol, PC Yannick Wade and WPC Kadizha Jones. All three were excited to be on the island and stated that they come ready and willing to work for the betterment of the island and hope to work hand in hand with the community.
In terms of how the department has been working, we were shown statistics which proved that the department has been working arduously in keeping our Isla Bonita safe. Mobile patrols, foot patrols and sea patrols have increased. Drug operations have been fruitful; in the month of January a total of 21.4 grams of drugs were confiscated, in February 51.2 grams and total of 162.95 grams in March.
The department has been working diligently in making our island a safer one to live in. Cases are being investigated and taken to court. The overall work on the island and in the police station has improved. Mr. Castellanos is even receiving letters of appreciation for the good work he and the police officers have been carrying out and the overall professionalism and character of the police officers have improved.
Ambergris Today takes this opportunity to welcome the newly graduated officers to La Isla Bonita and to Mr. Castellanos and his officer we say Kudos! Keep doing a great job!
