Craig Mayer and his family have fallen in love with San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, very much so, that they hope to retire one day on the island. But before the couple comes to live in Belize, the family of five wants to help give back to the community as much as they can.
While vacationing in San Pedro Craig Mayer, his wife Melissa, three daughters Riley, Sydnie and Carlee and family friend Nicole Debravender, took time to visit the San Mateo residential area and donate sports clothing, shoes and equipment to children.
Craig’s eldest daughter is a soccer enthusiast and with the assistance of her soccer club at school back in Racine, Wisconsin, and her sisters, they were able to collect and gather a large supply of soccer equipment which included new uniforms that were donated by Oscar from Upper Ninety Soccer Shop.
“I wanted my daughters to learn to appreciate life and the things they have here in the United States,” commented Craig to Ambergris Today. “Showing them how other children are underprivileged and do not have access to sports training and facilities, is a perfect way to teach them to be appreciative and give back to those in need.”
The Mayer family was also able to meet with San Pedro Mayor Daniel Guerrero and create a special relationship with the island as they expressed their desire to do more. They hope to assist the island with the development of a sports complex where they would provide sports clinics and continue collecting more equipment for the island’s children. Mayor Guerrero was very appreciative and is willing to work with the family who is all excited of giving back to the community that they have fallen in love with.
Assisting the Mayers in distributing the donation were Councilor Gabriel Nuñez and Town Forman Freddy Gonzalez. They were also able to give some of the sports equipment to the San Pedro High School soccer team and other children in neighborhoods around town.
