Meet 24-year-old, Joel Hodgson, a born Belizean, adopted by Scottish parents and brought up in Renton, Bunbartonsire. Joel was recently featured on the Daily Record Website for being a great role model facing many adversities and who will now proudly carry the Olympic torch and represent Belize in the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
Joel has come a long, long way since being born in Belize, abandoned by his mum when he was just three months old, adopted by Scottish parents at the age of four, moving to London to start a new life with his girlfriend, sleeping on the steps of police stations to keep safe, and landing a job at one of London’s Top Law firm.
Joel will now get to live one of his dreams as he was chosen to join the team of runners to carry the Olympic torch this year. He also received the good news that he is eligible to compete for Belize at the 2012 Commonwealth Games in Scotland.
“I’ve been picked to run with the flame and could be flying the flag for Belize in Scotland, the country I call home,” stated Joel to the Daily Record. After the Olympics Joel will start training for the Commonwealth games he will be attending Belize Training Camps.
