Coca Cola National Spelling Bee Zone Elimination
The 17th Annual Coca Cola National Spelling Bee Zone Elimination took place this morning at the San Pedro Lions Den. Participating schools included Holy Cross Anglican School, New Horizons Adventist School, San Pedro R.C. School, Isla Bonita Elementary School, Ambergris Caye Elementary School, Island Academy and Caye Caulker RC School.

Judges for the event were Dr. Janet Vucinich, Mrs. Magdalena Badillo and Mr. Moises Peña and the pronouncer was Mrs. Joy Elliot. Mr. Bernabe Duran was the representative present for Bowen & Bowen.

After six rounds of elimination Emily Simoes of Ambergris Caye Elementary School and Kendice Armstrong of Holy Cross Anglican School were the first and second place winners, respectively. Corey Gray of A.C.E.S was the third place winner and will be the alternate in case Emily or Kendice cannot represent at the district finals. Congratulations to the winners for a job well done.

    Heh! i love that they're still doing this Spelling bee Competition. i tried in 96 i believe and won ZOne but lost District, in 97 i won Zone agian but lost District.. IN 98 i won ZONE, DISTRICT AND WON  2 NICE COMPUTERS at the nationals for a cool 1st Place!! winning word RICOCHET!!  Was the first san pedrana to win it.. i look forward to seeing more san pedranos/as win the Spelling bees. Rose Mary Syme was the Second. I still love to spell lol. Im gonna push my son to compete once he gets old enough. follow in mommys foot steps :)
