On Friday, December 2, 2011, the Belize Tourism Board conducted its first ever Twitter Live Chat with over 113 participants using the #VisitBelize hashtag. Ambergris Today was very happy to be part of this live chat on Twitter as it helped selling the product we all are working on advertising – BELIZE!
The BTB’s current Road Warrior, Norbert Figueroa of GloboTreks, who is social media savvy and is interested in taking Belize to the next level on these powerful platforms, spearheaded the #VisitBelize Live Chat on twitter. With a total of 1,111 tweets posted using the hashtag reaching over 85,000 people with a total of 1,560,551 impressions.
We at Ambergris Today were able to reach new and exciting people who are interested in visiting Belize. During the live chat we took the opportunity to talk about travel, food, adventure and the people in San Pedro and Belize, giving exposure to many of our clients and advertisers.
Figueroa explained that the success of this first time initiative very much exceeded expectations. As many of you know, twitter and other social media platforms, such as Facebook, are playing an increasingly important role in influencing travelers’ decisions about where they take their vacations. The BTB has been aggressive and innovative in dedicating resources to using social media effectively for the tourism industry in Belize.
The Belize Tourism Board is extremely happy that a number of hotel properties, twitter fans and followers engaged in the intensive 90 minute twitter chat promoting Belize at its best. Twenty-five BTB member businesses participated in the chat, with half of the sponsors giving away prizes. A lot of questions were asked and answers were provided by Norbert and many others who participated.
