“Don’t count every hour in the day, make every hour in the day count”

It was time to go to work again. Rushing to shave he caught a glimpse of his body in the mirror. Soft bulging flesh hung where the hint of a six pack was years ago. He was fat and out of shape. “If I just had more time,” he thought to himself, as the razor passed a little too close to his left ear.

Times were tough. Between the house payments, the kids school fees, the cart, and keeping the dive operation running, he was being swallowed like a whale gulping a sardine. He needed to find more time. His mind drifted back to when he used to run the beach everyday his stride was light and quick. Now he sat on his golf cart going from place to place, stressing, gorging on tamales, drinking himself to sleep nightly to find peace.

His wife and kids were suffering too. They wanted time with dad. He just needed to get the business up and running. It has been running him for the last four years. Life is what’s happening while you are making other plans. Getting to your goals are easy when things go in a predictable manner.

But, life doesn’t work that way. Sickness, bills, bad deals, economy, overextension, even the weather changes can chip away at your time and progress to your destination. Life is game that sometimes requires you to toss the deck for a new one.

Below are a few simple ways to make time when life gets in the way of living:
1. Find ways to slow down: Believe your goals can fit into your daily life without sacrificing the things that matter.
2. Make adjustments: Constantly reassess the direction you are going so you don’t end up in a place you don’t want to be.
3. Trim the fat: Let go of any excessive habits and behaviors that have undesirable effects on you and keep you away from achieving the results you desire.
4. Learn to delegate: Believe in people that can help you achieve your goals and give them an opportunity to prove themselves to you.
5. Me time: Make sure you carve out some “me” time so you can relax, listen to music or take a walk to enjoy your surroundings. Time alone helps you to reassess, and make different plans when necessary.
