THE party town of Belize that never seems to sleep would most definitely be San Pedro, known for its great bars, live entertainment and parties that go on until the sun comes up - One such party that nobody should miss out is ringing in the New Year.
More than just a party, it is a celebration – one that you do not need any VIP passes to and definitely no special clothing to wear. Of course almost everybody is out in their best NYE attire but you will see the hundreds of tourists walking in shorts and flip flops, anything is acceptable on a tropical island! One thing that is for sure is that everybody has an amazing time wherever they choose to bring in the New Year.
This New Year’s Eve celebrations in San Pedro seemed to take on a life of its own with many establishments offering great party incentives, especially free champagne! The San Pedro Town Council was one responsible to bring out a huge crowd to Central Park where Mayor Daniel Guerrero counted down to midnight with dances and a great fireworks display for the entire town to enjoy; even our neighbors from Caye Caulker witnessed the colors in the sky.

As the Town Council helped to bring out the masses to the streets, hotel and bars welcomed customers by the hundreds. The easiest of things is that you can just walk from one party to the next or just take a quick ride on a golf cart. Everything is so central or close by.
There were fire dancers and face painting at Sandbar by the beach, Lola’s Pub pitched tents and brought out the bar to the street, it was jam-packed under the famous giant palapa at Fido’s, Señor Marlin’s Sports Bar drew another hefty crowd to celebrate beachside and Kama Lounge and Captain Morgan’s Retreat offered great parties in the North Ambergris area.
Even Elvi’s Kitchen stayed open past midnight to ring in the New Year with live music, hors d’oeuvres, party favors and champagne; one of the few restaurants to do so. The two night clubs in town, Jaguars Temple and Daddy Rock were full to capacity with a local crowd, as well with visitors from the city and around Belize.

Of course the annual big New Year’s Eve bash on the island is at the famous Holiday Hotel that rang in the New Year with hundreds of party revelers with great music, party favors and free champagne and bocas for everybody’s enjoyment. Their party went on until six in the morning!
But the party that goes on for the longest on the island is that of the San Pedro Lions Club. When all the other parties are done, those with enough energy to go for more head down to the Lion’s Den where live local music keeps blazing until 9a.m. or longer, depending on the energy of the crowd. It’s party mostly attended by the locals, but if you are interested in the local scene and want to party like the islanders, everybody is welcomed in the fun.
San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, surely has fun and entertainment for just about anybody. The ambience and friendliest of friendly people make New Year’s Eve a fantastic time of the year to be in La Isla Bonita.
