- by Vic Murphy - Belize welcomed two Canadian Hockey Teams who travelled from Toronto on Wednesday, November 28, 2018, to take part in the 2nd annual Coconut Cup Tournament hosted by the San Pedro Buccaneers hockey team. A warm welcome at San Pedro Air Terminal was the order of the day when the Town Boards Sports Representative, Kent Gaboural (fondly known as Bob) presented the visitors with gift bags and ice cold rum punch.
On Friday, November 16, 2018, San Pedro High School held a fun and educational Cultural Day Exhibit. Students and teachers dressed up in all our different ethinic groups found in Belize. Display booths were decorated with items such as food as well with other traditional items. Students work ardously the entire week to set up the perfect display loaded with information as well as fun dances and skits. Here are some pictures of the cultural groups.
Halloween 2018 Spooktacular Students at San Pedro High School had crazy day/dress up day on Wednesday, October 31, 2018. Students dress up as Rockstars, "Cereal" Killers and other inventive costumes to display and have fun with their peers. While pre-schoolers of ABC Pre-School had a blast dressing up and going with parents to trick or treat in the neightborhood and enjoying delicous cupcakes and treats. A September to Remember - Celebrating our country's Independence is something rather important and there are many events leading to the grand celebration. We have combined some pictures of a few events that took place on San Pedro, Ambergris Caye commemorating our country's Independence. San Pedro High School held a reenactment of the raising of the Belize Flag for the first time on Independence Cay 1981; the British Flag came down. Mr. Angel Nunez was the guest speaker for the event and a poster competition was held among the Freshmen Class.
It's our country's Independence Day Eve and the San Pedro RC School hit the streets of San Pedro and paraded in patriotic colors. The Marching Band played its melodious beats and majorettes danced gracefully to the tunes. Classes displayed their beautifully made banners with this year's theme "Belize Da Fu Wi, Now and Forever. 8867". Happy Independence Day to all!
On Saturday, Septmeber 15, 2018, Island Residents enjoyed for the first time ever a Central American and Mexican Independence Day Parade. It was a short yet jovial parade that started off at Central Park and ended at the Hon. Louside Sylvestre Sports Complex. Mayor Daniel Guerrero and Island Beauty Ambassdors led the parade followed by flag bearers and dancers moving gracoiusly to the music of the marching band. Happy Independence Day to Mexico and Central America.
Opening this past weekend in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, Belize is the island's newest themed restaurant that pays tribute to Belize's fishermen/anglers, as well as delivering a delicious menu highlighted by seafood dishes. Anglers Restaurant Bar is the brainchild of Sanpedrano, island resident Giovanni Marin who has been an entrepreneur on the island for quite some time now. His restaurant picks on his love of the sea and growing up in a family full of fishermen and tourist guides.
The Ministry of Education, Youth & Sports, UNICEF along with the San Pedro Town Council have teamed up to provide training for teachers to help children ages 5 – 12 who have experienced trauma from a natural or man-made disaster. The training is called “Return to Happiness” and participants are being taught how to offer psychological therapy. Participants have been partaking in fun activities at the San Pedro High School and are being trained by professionals by UNICEF.
From dining under the stars on a sunset cruise on board the Yolo, swimming with the sharks and rays at Hol Chan Marine Reserve, dancing at Maxi's, shopping at Friki Tiki, sampling at the Chocolate Boutique, to dining at Elvi's Kitchen, Pineapple's Restaurant, El Patio, (and many more) the seven delegates of the Miss Costa Maya Pageant, including reigning Miss Costa Maya 2017 Michelle Nuñez, were hosted by various businesses around Ambergris Caye. Never a dull moment, they have been kept very well fed and entertained like no other place in Belize can.
Ambergris Today takes this opportunity to Congratulate Mr. Eduardo Aguilar for being admitted to the Bar Association of Belize on Friday, July 20, 2018, after having complied with the statutory requirements of the Legal Counsel. He is now qualified to practice as an Attorney-at-Law in Belize. Best wishes Mr. Aguilar!
This past weekend Jamaican model and singer-songwriter Samantha J was in Belize for the first time. Her live concert took place on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at the Angel Nunez Auditorium. Upon her arrival at La Isla Bonita, Samantha J was greeted by many followers and she gladly stopped for a pic or two and she also enjoyed parasailing in our beautiful island. Samantha J loved Belize so much she promised on social media that she will be back!
On Saturday, May 12, 2018, The San Pedro Town Council along with Hon. Manuel Heredia Jr. hosted its annual Mother's Day Extravaganza at the Hon. Louis Sylvestre Sports Complex, where the mothers were greeted and presented with a special gift as they entered. It was a night filled with lots of laughter and entertainment. Mothers were serenaded by San Pedro's very own Wil & Dale featuring Mr. Fernando Trejo. El Buki imitator, Ismael Chacon delighted the crowd with popular songs as well. While Yaka’s Elite Dancers entertained with awesome choreographed dances.
Graduation season is here and there was quite a buzz at the San Pedro High School this morning as they gave graduation announcement. Students were all excited and nervous to know what the results were as we enter graduation season. Students on campus were happy to receive the great news and without fail the ever popular signing of uniforms took place. Well wishes and congratulations written all over the uniforms with bright colored markers!
Hol Chan Marine Reserve's Reef Week 2018 is in full swing. Today, Thursday, May 10, 2018, the reef fair took place at Central Park and students from verious schools and the public in general were invited to attend a very informative fair.
"Actions Today - A Healthier Tomorrow" - this was the theme under which the San Pedro High School celebrated Drug Awareness Week from Monday, April 23 to Friday, April 27, 2018. The week consisted of various in class activities including motivational speakers talking to students. The week full of activities came to an end with students gathering at the Angel Nunez Auditorium where each class made presentations in relation to drug use/drug awareness. Many beautiful and meaningful poems were recited as well as interesting and well practiced skits.
The San Pedro House of Culture held its first annual Festival of Cultures on Sunday, April 22, 2018 on the beachside by Palapa Bar. There was plenty to eat and drink and live music provided by the popular Caribbean Kings. Highlight of the event was the Cultural Fashion Show put together by the House of Culture and Foreva Fancy Boutique. Here are some pictures of the event for your enjoyment.
The Ambergris Caye Masonic Lodge held its first ever Easter Egg Hunt on Monday, April 2, 2018. It was a fun event where children and parents gathered at the entrance of the San Pedro High School for the gate to be opened at 12 noon sharp! As the gate opened the children ran to get their eggs filled with goodies. There were snacks on sale and even a bicycle raffle won by Lael Martinez. The ACML would like to thank everyone who helped make this event possible and a very special thanks to all those who attended.
After several months of planning, the combined classes of Saint John’s College and Saint Catherine Academy alumni ’78 held its 40th reunion at the Radisson Fort George Hotel in Belize City on Saturday, March 10, 2018. Over 100 alumni, friends and teachers came from all over the United States and Belize to fill the beautifully decorated Caracol Room and enjoy an evening of entertainment and fellowship.
We had the opportunity to see all the excited faces of students and visitors of Isla Bonita Elementary School's third annual Science Fair that was held last week, March 16, 2018. Held under the theme "Discovering a New World through the Window of Science", the different classes from all levels displayed their projects from a range of topics under the elementary school's science curriculum.
The month of March is filled with fun activities for children as they are celebrated the entire month as it is Child Stimulation Month. PreSchools have a busy month planned out for students, parents and family to participate it. Aerobics, Grandparents day, Daddy Days, Movie Days, Cultural Day and even Civic Pride Day.
