Tourists ask for the restaurant by name when they reach Ambergris Caye. “Please direct me to Waruguma.” It has become a very popular Salvadoran eatery along the lines of the famous Elvi’s Kitchen, Cocina Caramba and The Reef Restaurant and Hollywood Celebrity Kal Penn was one such customer of the famous Waruguma Restaurant this past weekend. Kal Penn walked through the streets of San Pedro incognito before making a stop at Waruguma where he enjoyed a great meal. A handful of people who recognized him were fortunate enough to get a picture and autograph from the star.
* Popular bar establishment BC’s Bar was hit by armed Robbers - Carlo Segura, 34-year-old, Belizean Bartender for BC’s Bar located on the beach front, reported to police that on Friday, March 12 at about 11:30p.m. whilst standing outside BC’s bar he was alerted by a barking dog. Upon making further checks he noticed three male person of dark skin complexion covering their faces; one of them had what appeared to be a hand gun. Shortly after he heard a loud noise resembling that of gunshot and discovered that the dog was shot.

On Saturday March 13, 2010 Brahma Blue Resort was officially power by BEL. This success is the result of a two year project by BEL and its partner customers. BEL began by submerging a cable from their generating facility in San Pedro, across the lagoon and then to Costa del Sol island. A transformer was then installed and the cable connected. This portion of the project was completed November 2008.

The fiscal year closes at the end of March and the budget’s performance for 2009 to 2010 was poor, and the coming year promises to bring new and additional taxes. But indeed celebrities in their own right, the San Pedro High School Math Olympiad team are indeed famous. Residents lined up along the streets to cheer along with the entire school for the National Champions of the Math Olympiad. “Women Achievers in Belize” is the theme for Belize National Library Service Women's Month for March 2010. For years women’s contributions were routinely underestimated or ignored even in the history of our own profession. San Pedro Public Library is celebrating Women's Month, by mounting displays about women who have/are contributing/achieved in some way or the other within our society - displaying profile picture along with their biographies and their achievements.
Fisheries Minister on the HOT SEAT San Pedro Tour Guide Association president Billy Leslie calls this legislation “an insult to every resident of San Pedro and insult to every Belizean”. Leslie is referring to Government’s decision to apply a license to anyone who wants to engage in fishing. In simple terms this license will be charged unto any person who goes to the beach, the end of the lagoon or the end of a pier or even at the Boca del Rio with a fishing line and the intention to catch a fish or two for his children to have a decent fish meal.

It all began with a conscious mind of keeping La Isla Bonita Clean that Chris Emmanuel got the idea of creating this wonderful sculpture of a Spotted Eagle Ray made out of plastic bottles. As he takes his ritual morning walks down the beach, Chris explains that he takes time to pick up discarded plastic bottles and trash that he finds along the way.
The news spread like wildfire, and the initial shock of word that the private plane of Mr. Barry Bowen had gone down in the marshes of Ambergris Caye was enough to cause everything to come to a standstill on the island, with everybody waiting to hear the outcome of the accident.
The peaceful monotony of a Monday afternoon on Barrier Drive was interrupted at about 5:30p.m. when the driver of a Polaris swerved to avoid hitting someone, causing it to flip and land on top of him. According to eye witnesses, the driver of the Polaris was speeding and upon trying to avoid hitting the person he swerved to the left causing the Polaris to overturn and landing on top of the driver. The driver was assisted by those who were around and received medical attention by Dr. Daniel Gonzalez.
Amongst the screaming cheers of his fans, DJ Flex arrived in San Pedro on Saturday, February 27, at around 3pm in preparation for his concert set for that night. Mayor Elsa Paz welcomed DJ Flex as he also greeted and hyped his fans inviting them to his concert.
At about 4:45 a.m. on Monday, March 01, Ambergris Today was first to arrive at the scene of what appeared to be a traffic accident. The police pick-up truck crashed into the fence of the San Pedro R.C. School on Tarpon Street. According to an eye witness, the police car was speeding on Pescador Drive heading to Tarpon Street and appeared to have an injured person on the back when he slammed on the schools fence. The injured person was then transported the San Pedro Poly Clinic. The Police vehicle was later removed from the street at about 5:45 a.m.
A San Pedro resident, Eladio Balam, pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of causing death by careless conduct in the accidental death of an eight-year-old boy. In May 2007, 45-year-old Eladio Balam, accidentally reversed his Bobcat tractor into Jose Raudeles who was walking his bicycle from school on his way home.

The Town of San Pedro woke up on Monday morning, February 22, to the sounds and sights of the popular morning show on Belize Channel 5 Television Station, Open Your Eyes. The venue was Central Park with the usual hosts of the show William Neal and Marleni Cuellar. There was a lot of information, interviews and entertainment in the show which opened at 6:30a.m. featuring Angel Nuñez with a discussion on the settlement of the Mestizos on Ambergris Caye and its consequent development of fishing, education, and growth of the Island.
Congratulations are on hand to the hard working students and teachers, for an excellent performance at the Math Olympiad Central Regional Championships. The two participants in the Senior division were: Jing Han (4C) and Vicky Balam (4C), Alternates were Lucio Nuñez (3A) and Cindy Novelo (3C). In the Juniors division the two participants were: Emily Gomez (2A) and Ismael Kay (2E) and their alternates were Walter Tut (1C) and Yanni Garcia (2G).
The Garifuna Collective and the Umalali Singers returned to Belize today after a two-week North American tour that included a performance at the Cultural Olympiad, part of the official festivities for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, Canada. The tour also included shows in Seattle, Washington, San Diego and Chico, California, as well as New Hampshire. Fronting the Collective once again were vocalists Desiree Diego, Sofia Blanco, Marcella Torres. The women were accompanied on stage by musicians Joshua Arana, Denmark Flores, Sam Harris, Wilton Lewis and Al Ovando.
