Eighteen Teachers from various primary schools in San Pedro graduated this past weekend, January 29 from the University of Belize.  These are teachers in Primary schools with Associate Degrees but without teaching pedagogy.  The University of Belize facilitated this program by offering courses in San Pedro during the summer vacations.  To complete the program successfully teacher

It was a great turn out for the San Pedro Cancer Society’s first Candle Lit Cancer Walk on World Cancer Awareness Day February 4, 2011. Island residents took to the streets for a walk around the main streets of San Pedro to create awareness about the disease.

San Pedro High School gathered its student body at the Rafael Angel Nuñez Auditorium for Career Day. The annual all morning assembly has always been an excellent eye-opening and inspirational day for San Pedro High School students to learn more about the careers available in San Pedro.

There’s a new appointment in the management of the Belize Bank. Michael Castillo, who has been with the bank since 1987, has served as Manager of the San Pedro and San Ignacio Branches, now holds the newly introduced position of General Manager of Retail Banking Services.

During one of his concerts at Wet Willy’s Cantina, on Thursday, January 27, 2011, Jerry Jeff Walker and Dale Clayton Wallace held a guitar auction to raise funds for the San Pedro Lions Club.

There are several reports of suspicious if not illegal activity occurring at the Philip Goldson International Airport. Only a week ago, two Mexican choppers landed at the airport, and on the apron the brazen pilots were attempting to change the registration number.

On Thursday, January 27, 2011, the Belize Sailing Association (BzSA) Alan Usher met with sailing enthusiasts in San Pedro to advance the development of an Optimist Dinghy Club on the island. An interim committee was formed with Milo Paz in the Chair and Andrew Milner of the San Pedro Sailing Club. Other interested persons include Roberto Guerrero and Forrest Jones.

Rich Grimm of Tsunami Sky Divers Incorporated along with a group of over 130 skydivers are coming back to beautiful San Pedro for the 7th annual “Boogie in Belize” skydiving event. This year there will be two boogies, “Boogie in Belize VII” which will be from Saturday, February 12 to Monday, February 21 and “Skyfari Belize” will be from Thursday, February 24 to Saturday, March 5. Boogie in Belize VII has been sold out and Skyfari Belize will be hosting a group of Europeans and will also be making a few jumps in Central Farm, Caye Caulker, Placencia and Belize City.

"WOW, that plane is HUGE!!" - comments like this were heard all over town this weekend as a C-130 Hercules (A four engine military aircraft) was spotted flying extremely low off the coast of San Pedro, Ambergris Caye. The aircraft was flying several dozen feet of the ground and had no identification marks.

On Saturday night in San Pedro, every parent and grandparent knew something was up in town.  Charlotte Hansen performed a variety show for SAGA Humane Society as a fundraiser and the show was sold out!  SAGA raised $2,593, which means there are a lot of happy dogs and cats right now, who will be fed and cared for until they can find new homes. Charlotte donated her time and talent to the community of San Pedro, performing puppet shows for hundreds of children across San Pedro ending with a variety performance at the Lion’s Den to help SAGA raise much needed funds.

A press release has been made by the San Pedro Liquor Licensing Board through the offices of the San Pedro Town Council. Over a two-year period from 2009 to 2011 there is a marked decline in the number of liquor licenses issued by the San Pedro Town Council from 186 to 159, a decrease of 27 licenses. The area showing a noticeable decrease is with publican special licenses, which are the regular bars that open to any and all patrons and where all liquors are consumed on premises.

The lovely contestants will be judged in several categories which include swimsuit, talent and modeling and formal wear and will be delighting the crowd with dance presentations.
