This good news was announced last week Thursday, June 2, 2011, at the official inauguration ceremony of the Hon. Manuel Heredia Hall at San Pedro High School grounds.

Twenty six new Optimist dinghies have been released from Belizean customs and are now ready for the Belizean Sailing Association to use. The sail boats were purchased entirely by donation and manufactured by Far East Boat Builders in Shanghai China. The International Optimist Dinghy Association (IODA) sponsored four of the boats in its "6 for 5" scheme.

Minister of Transport, Melvin Hulse, has signed into law a statutory instrument that will outlaw heavy tinting of vehicles that came into effect on Wednesday, June 1, 2011. A press release from the Department of Transport indicates that vehicles with heavy tinting won’t even be allowed to be parked on public roads, much less to be driven on them.

Did You Hear the Tsunami Siren? - As part of the National Emergency Management Organization of Belize (NEMO) Emergency Awareness Week, a Tsunami Threat Exercise was held in San Pedro. On Saturday, May 28, the San Pedro Fire Department sounded the alarm through the streets of San Pedro Town. This was a practice in case there is a Tsunami threat for Belize.
