Fire authorities are still trying to determine the cause of a blaze that completely destroyed a home just outside the DFC area, on the road along the San Pedro Marina south of San Pedro Town. The fire started at around 12:30pm on Sunday, July 3, 2011 and completely gutted a small one story wooden house in the isolated area just before the marina.

Raul’s Rose Garden, one of Belize’s longstanding brothel, was totaled by fire on Tuesday, June 28. The establishment which stood at mile eight on the Northern Highway was destroyed by an early fire which reportedly started around five in the morning and was extinguished shortly after seven; everything inside had been totally wiped out.

Earlier this month the San Pedro Junior College inaugurated its new building, the Hon. Manuel Heredia Hall. It was a memorable occasion as many students will benefit from this much needed building. Corporal Gavin Sanchez was killed by Sergeant Paulino Reyes in the San Pedro Police Barracks in March of 2010. It stirred controversy in October when the DPP ruled that Reyes acted in self-defense - and now, a jury at a coroner's inquest found the same thing.

Government has acquired The Belize Electricity Limited. The law was signed by the Governor General this on Monday, June 20, and the order of acquisition was signed by the Utilities Minister and the Prime Minister. The new interim CEO and a new Board of Directors took over the company on Tuesday, June 21, 2011.
