The Greasy Pole
One of the favorite, crowd-pleasing events at all beach activities in the past used to be the greasy pole. It is very simple- a light post measuring about 30 feet is anchored into the sand and greased with pig lard or hard car grease.
A Picturesque San Pedro
If we look back at San Pedro in the 1950’s this would be the most beautiful spot in the small fishing village. Left to right, the small police station suitable for one small family, a tiny office for one officer and a mini jail for one too. The Tackle Box was the very first recreational establishment in San Pedro Town directly over the sea. It was the brain piece of Mr. Alan Forman who was owner of Coral Beach Hotel and who was looking for attractions and entertainment for tourists and locals alike.

The Music Gene
Definitely music is learned through practice, but if there is anything like a music gene, it can certainly be seen here. Virgilio and Perfecto Rivero come from a very talented musician, Mr. Emilio Rivero who was perhaps one of San Pedro’s most talented guitarist both in the lead as well as accompaniment. Virgilio started with drums in the 1980’s and his brother Perfecto “Peseto” Rivero with the guitar. Ramon “Memo” Guerrero started around this time with the guitar and later on shifted to the electronic keyboard. Today all of these fellows are still very much active in the music world.
Los Carnavalistas
There have always been those who keep the Carnival tradition alive. Way back then it was Mr. Severito Guerrero the First who wrote songs for all the comparsas. Then there were Mr. Fido Nuñez, a great promoter of the event. Later on Mrs. Vilma Arceo promoted comparsas year after year raising funds for the Catholic Church. Today there are a few carnavalistas like Mrs.
History Of Musical Groups -Los Malos
After the demise of Los Shadows which lasted only about three years, then came Los Malos in the 1970’s and 80’s. Los Shadows were all young men with their girlfriends, so it was humanly impossible for them to last long.
