 Accident at Tortilla Factory
An unfortunate and untimely accident fell upon a worker of La Popular Tortilla Factory, located on Angel Coral Street, on Tuesday, August 31, at about 1:00 p.m., as 16-year-old Emmanuel Marcos Garcia got his hand caught in one of the tortilla-making machines.

 Drowning Incident in North Ambergris Caye
Reports come into our office on Monday, August 30, that a resort maintenance worker drowned in an incident that took place at a pier of a resort about four miles in North Ambergris Caye after a night of partying.

 Mayor Paz Continuous Struggle Against Offshore Drilling
The Coalition to Save our Natural Heritage has found an important political ally in San Pedro’s Mayor Elsa Paz. Paz was aboard the vessel chartered by OCEANA to tour the areas affected by BP’s Deep Horizon spill and was joined by Hollywood celebrities on the gulf tour. At a brief press conference in the U.S., Paz was introduced by Ted Danson, actor and OCEANA Board member.

Back To School!
It’s Back to School time! Summer vacations are over and most children are either moving up another grade in school or just starting of their educational career for the first time whether they are freshmen in high school or first years in the primary schools. Whichever the case may be, classes have commenced and here in San Pedro we are faced with a few minor problems which include (i) no space available at schools for children (ii) children not enrolled at schools and lastly (iii) the need of more classrooms/schools.

 Cancer Patients Enjoy San Pedro Sunshine
Sixteen cancer patient children from all over Belize were on the island on Saturday, August 28, 2010, to enjoy some sun, sea and sand. Mr. Steve Hagan, in collaboration with Belize Kids Incorporated, was responsible for creating such a great outing for the children to enjoy and take their minds away from the everyday hardships of dealing with cancer.
