The Ministry of Education, Youth, Sports & Culture and the CXC National Committee of Belize congratulate all students who sat the 2016 CXC examinations, especially those that displayed stellar performance in the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examinations and the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations (CAPE).
The Twenty-second annual CXC National Awards Ceremony to recognize the outstanding students is scheduled to be held on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. at the St. Catherine Academy Auditorium in Belize City. At the Awards Ceremony the CXC National Committee of Belize will present several categories of awards to outstanding students in the 2016 CSEC Examinations.
Three hundred sixty-six (366) students will receive CSEC Certificates of Excellence, two (2) will receive Subject Group Awards and thirty-four (34) Individual Subject Awards. The CXC National Committee of Belize will also recognize students who excelled in the 2016 CAPE Examinations. Five (5) student will receive CAPE Certificates of Excellence and three (3) students will receive Certificates of Recognition. Certificates will also be presented to the top performers in thirty (30) CAPE units.
The Ministry of Education, Youth, Sports & Culture and the CXC National Committee of Belize are pleased to announce that Mr. Jose Guerrero of St. John’s College Junior College is the Most Outstanding Candidate (i.e. first place) for the May-June 2016 CAPE examinations and is therefore the recipient of the Belize Scholarship for 2016. Mr. Guerrero obtained five (5) Grade I.
Miss Nadiya Elletisha Sedasey of St. John’s College Junior College is the Outstanding Candidate (i.e. second place) in Belize for the May-June 2016 CAPE examinations. Miss Sedasey attained six (6) Grade I.
The Ministry of Education, Youth, Sports & Culture and the CXC National Committee of Belize are also pleased to announce that Mr. Rhiki Alexander Alegría of St. John’s College is the Most Outstanding Candidate (i.e. first place) for the May-June 2016 CSEC examinations. Mr. Alegría obtained sixteen (16) Grade I at the General Proficiency Level. Mr. Alegría will also receive the Subject Group Award in the Sciences.
Miss Irene Gisselle Flores of Edward P. Yorke High School is the Outstanding Candidate (i.e. second place) in Belize for the May-June 2016 CSEC examinations. Miss Flores attained thirteen (13) Grade I at the General Proficiency Level. Miss Flores also achieved first place for English B.
Mr. Glevaughn Gordon Smith of Edward P. Yorke High School will receive the Subject Group Award in Technical/Vocational.
The stellar performance of the students is as a result of their determination and dedication to their studies. Fundamental to their preparation, is the hard work of teachers and school administration together with the support of parents and guardians. Several entities and organizations played a pivotal role in the students’ success by granting scholarships and financial assistance.
The Government of Belize through the Ministry of Education provided financial assistance for students to sit up to six CSEC examinations. Through this initiative 3,912 candidates registered to sit 28,608 CSEC subjects which represent 456 candidates and 4,466 subjects more than for the 2015 sitting. The partnership between the public and private sector validates the relevance of the education system and ensures that the students are able to develop to their full potential as productive citizens of Belize. The CSEC and CAPE examinations afford the students a certification that has regional and international currency.
