What's Up Today, Gerry?
A Boat Traveler Journey
Have you ever had that moment in your life where you just want to escape; I have. On a lovely Sunday on la Isla Bonita I was out walking the beach with some friends and observed this amazing and unique man-made boat sailing the beautiful blue waters of San Pedro.
As the beautiful vessel was moored at the municipal dock, I rushed to get a close look and tried to get a short word with the sailor. The boat traveler is named Chris and he is from London UK. (Sorry for no video interview) He was camera shy
. Chris was glad to have a little chat with me about his fantastic journey. He commented that he started from Veracruz, Mexico where he built his unique vessel named Desesperado (meaning Desperate). Soon after, he set sail to Campeche, Mexico, Playa Del Carmen and finally making it to San Pedro, Belize (sounds exhausting, but I guess nothing stops the adventure junky).
I asked Chris why he decided to do this trip and he stated that he has been living in the city for too long and he needed to escape from it all and live life to the fullest. Therefore, he googled adventure and Central America came up and that was when the idea was born, to go to Veracruz, Mexico and sail to the Central American Coast. This way he would get the chance to visit and learn about the beautiful countries, people and their culture (Awesome!).
Chris also mentioned that it is a huge struggle when it comes to the weather and of course food and water, but he has no regrets on doing this extreme adventure. He has completely adapted and most of all loves seeing all the dolphins, stingrays, fishes, sunrises and sunsets. All I got to say is congratulations and good luck to Chris “The Boat Traveler” on his amazing journey. Since I asked a lot of questions he decided to ask me one: “Would you ever do something like this to escape?” I told him “No! But it has crossed my mind.” I guess I can consider myself a bit of an adventure junky; if you don’t believe me check out the rest of my video blogs
