Barnaby Bear Visits San Pedro

Barnaby meet Gerry in San Pedro

On my daily travels around San Pedro Town, I noticed these two tourists taking pictures, not of themselves; but of an adorable brown bear. I had to go and ask them what they were doing because it looked cool.

Sorry followers, but I have no video footage on our little chit chat, but I got pictures:). Back on the cool encounter; the happy tourists were two teachers vacationing from the UK. The deal with the bear is that he is not just any stuffed cute bear; he is a well known character just like Dora the Explorer and SpongeBob etc.

This Bear is famously known as Barnaby Bear; he is well known in the UK and has his own show on the TV station BBC.  Below is some interesting information that I found at www.barnabybear.co.uk about this adorable bear:

Barnaby Bear first appeared in a unit of work entitled 'Where in the world is Barnaby Bear?' in 'Geography: A scheme of work for key stages 1 and 2', published by QCA/DfES. This was written to help teachers prepare interesting materials in response to the geography national curriculum objective: 'develop children's knowledge of places and environments throughout the world'.

Young children love Barnaby, and his appearance in unfamiliar places and environments helps children to relate to them. Seeing their own Barnaby in the classroom, and then seeing pictures of his adventures in faraway places helps children bridge the gap between the immediate, familiar environment and abstract, unfamiliar environments. Barnaby also enables practical first-hand experience - the best way to cover the early year requirement to encourage exploration, observation, problem solving, prediction, thinking and discussion.

I bet the teachers and Barnaby Bear had a great time taking many pictures to take back home and show all the students how beautiful La Isla Bonita is. But what is of interest is that through Barnaby San Pedro and Belize will be in the public domain in the Uk and in the classrooms too. Laughing
