Recycling Hits Fashion Runway
Green indeed is one of my favorite colors. And I am happy that green is in because everybody is thinking about the environment these days. “Going green is the way to go” is a sign I saw in many places in the wonderful town of San Ignacio, Cayo, Belize. It was an honor to be invited by the Nviro Club to witness and feature their Eco Heart Fashion Show at the beautiful Midas Resort.
Many of you are probably wondering what the Nviro Club is and what it’s all about, right? Well this is a club created by the Sacred Heart Junior College; below is some more information I found about this interesting club:
Nviro Club
“The future's explosive creative green artistic movement. Our initiative of the new generation involves the experienced. This is the decade's new resolution. To protect our Jewel, Belize.”
Mission:
- To promote environmental awareness and empower students to take action and work toward building a sound environmental ethic.
- To provide students with an environment conducive to individual growth and development through practical application of Science education.
- To be an organization that serves Sacred Heart Junior College and the community through projects and on-going functions.
- To raise public awareness on Environmental issues of public concern.
My journey began with my arrival to Midas resort where I was greeted by one of the amazing designers of the Nviro Club; Joris Groenendaal. He gave me the exclusive pass to the behind the scenes of his fashion show, from meeting the friendly and gorgeous models and meeting the other designer Gaby Barrera, to a sneak peek at the photo shoot of the lovely designs, which were photographed around San Ignacio and Midas Resort by Jamil Loskot Studios.
Having looked at all the impressive and very creative designs, I knew that it must have taken a lot of months of preparation. The designs were all made up of recycle newspaper, garbage bags, paper, even video tape and more.
As night approached, many people started to make their way to Midas Resort to be part of this spectacular night of fashion and entertainment. Cheers and applauses started as the host of the night, William Neal introduced the models to strut their stuff on the runway and open the show with a bang.
During the interlude, there were some very entertaining belly dancers showing off their hip moving skills and talented fire dancers. The show came to a close with all the models and their designers walking down the runway displaying their amazing work to the audience for the last time. The Nviro club was indeed the talk of the town for a wonderful fashion show.
Congratulations to the Nviro Club, Joris Groenendall and Gaby Barrera for a successful night. Thank you for the invitation and hope to see more fashions shows in the future:).
