Gerry Takes the Mic

When I was young, music had always been a way of escaping and expressing myself. And when I was in high school I made a mental to-do-list which I can say that I have almost completed it all and got more than I bargained for (I’m not complaining, but I’m thankful). You don’t need to be perfect at everything; I wasn’t and I’m still not. My energy is flowing to my favorite quote: “Live, Love, Life”.  

Music played a big part in my life, since I was in my mom’s tummy (that is what she told me ). I have been dancing all my life and of course singing. I was in many talent shows and also part of the choir at San Pedro High School. During my choir days I got more inspired because I had an amazing teacher that believed in me and that is my forever great principal, Mr. Angel Nuñez (man those were the good old days). I hope I am not boring anybody with my musical life story, because it is about to get better .

Soon after graduation it was time to head out into the real world and start scratching more stuff out of my to-do-list like travelling, becoming independent, spending unnecessary money and spoiling myself, clubbing and becoming a great party animal, getting a job, becoming a graphic designer, photographer, amateur model, losing weight & gaining some back (LOL), gaining some new friends from all over the world (thanks hi5, Myspace & Facebook) and hey I finally landed my final dream job at Ambergris Today (patience is a virtue ).

Now I am venturing into some other projects again, after having success with my dance group “Take The Lead” (volunteer summer program to keep children off the street). My next adventure takes me to television and helping out our local channel Reef TV gain more popularity with a brand new segment named “Wave Music” (a music video show for all music lovers). So far, so good.

As you can see music plays a huge part in my life; hey it runs in my family! Therefore, since I have done practically everything on my list it was time to scratch a new one off and that was recording a song in the recording studio.

I contacted my good friend Derrick Baños producer/bassist at Absolute Rip’d Records (ROCKSTARR). After two weeks of writing some Spanish lyrics to a really cool and popular song from Joe Jonas’s new single “See No More”, I was ready to hit the studio to either make it or break it (Yikes!).

My Spanish version of the song is called “Ya No Quiero Verte Mas” and it features Beneath The Lies lead vocalist, Lucio Nuñez who gave it a rock/pop feel to it. My experience was great and my respects to Derrick for his expertise tips that he gave me in progressing in my song. Also I have a bigger respect to all singers and performers in belting their all in the recording studio to make the perfect song or album.

I definitely want to continue venturing into this side of the music world and express myself even more. Remember my motto “Live, Love, Life” and reach for the stars, anything is possible.
