What's Up Today, Gerry?
I was Cured from Pasmo
Last week I had been battling a massive headache and nausea and when I decided to go to the Poly Clinic; shockingly I was diagnosed with high blood pressure (I felt the wind was punched out of me).
Immediately I felt depressed because I kept saying to myself, “Gerry you are too young to have high blood pressure”. The doctor told me that I had to live on by drinking a pill for the rest of my life to control my pressure (depression bar went up :( ). After coming out of the clinic I seriously realized how strong the mind is and of course it took the best of me leading to a dramatic phase (not good). Trust me I am happy to have great friends and family to keep my hopes up.
I took the medications, but I was still not feeling any sign of relief; I knew something was wrong. I had a conversation with my home nurse (my mom) about my symptoms and as she carefully analyzed it in her head, she said “hijo estas pasmado”. Immediately, I got a flashback and a smile came on my face because I had faith that the solution to all the drama would soon be over, just by taking a quick visit to a very popular “curandero/healer” (my grandfather).
Let me take you back to my memory lane. When I was a child I remember visiting my grandfather, Emilio Rivero, who would always be busy with his healings. Many Sanpedranos would arrive at his house with either pain somewhere in their body that the doctor couldn’t cure (interesting, right?) But the interesting technique that always would catch my eye would be “El Pasmo”. El Pasmo is a heavy fever that gives you a massive headache and nausea increasing your blood pressure and no pills would get you back to normal, unless you seek a healer to get the acupuncture.
It’s a fact that many doctors don’t believe on these traditional folkloric healing technique, especially this “Pasmo” condition. That is why the doctor kept me going back to the clinic for my regular checkups to see if my pressure would go down. But it did not. Therefore, the next step was to go back to my traditional roots and pray for a solution. Thankfully my grandfather has the skills and has been curing many Sanpedranos throughout the years.
Here are the steps my Grandfather took:
* I closed my eyes as my grandfather told me that I have to be in a relaxed state.
* He took out his homemade equipment, a ‘Tapche” – a short stick with a sharp pointed object tied at the end of it. In this case it was a sharp glass shard.
* My grandfather cleaned my forehead with rubbing alcohol and massaged it to feel the blood flow.
* With the ‘Tapche’, he gently tapped it on my forehead to puncture the skin at six different points. The procedure is like bloodletting, to release the pressure buildup.
* He then cleaned off the blood and rubbed my forehead again with rubbing alcohol.
* His prescription was two Tylenols, Chamomile Tea, rest and no shower until the following day.
I was cured.
