SPHS at Marching Band Fest

This is only the second year that the Belize Band Fest put on its marching band show in Belize City and surely enough San Pedro High School was well represented in this prestigious event. Under the instruction of the marching band pro, Mr. John Thompson, the San Pedro High Blazing Drum Corps stepped up right into action this past Saturday in Belize City.

Accompanying the team of ten drummers were twenty young ladies with batons and pom poms who kept up to the rhythms during this three mile and three hour long performance to thrill the Belize City residents.

Speaking off camera, some of the high school participants said that it was a thrilling experience. They did their best to represent San Pedro, and of course, learned a lot from the experience. One thing they learned is that the entire group can do more dancing. The drummers can dance a bit more and certainly the girls can add much more to their choreography.

This was not much of a competition but rather an exhibition. Everyone learned from each other and the spirit of the event is to place musical instruments in the hands of young people rather than guns and weapons. It is an alternative to a young and boring mind into doing something creative and productive at the same time. Band Fest is about sharing other talents, including international talents that come for the show to give Belizeans a taste of the cake.

San Pedro High was very proud to participate and thanks Pete’s Enterprises, who has now become a full-time patron and sponsor of the equipment. Similarly we thank the business community that supported the Blazing Corps Drummers with finances for uniforms and transportation costs. Thanks for providing the youths with a memorable experience.
