San Pedro PUP Wins with Johnny

The PUP has a new leader and he is Hon. Johnny Briceño, a well seasoned politician and a long time statesman in the People’s United Party government.

In a closely contested election held in Belmopan, Johnny won with a margin of 20 votes receiving all 15 votes from the delegates of San Pedro and Belize Rural South.

Johnny has won every election he has participated in, has been deputy party leader, has deputized as Prime Minister, and has served in the House of Representatives and Minister of Lands and Natural Resources for many years.

The San Pedro delegates went full force to support Johnny Briceño, having had an excellent working relationship with him. Johnny supported San Pedro in its quest for Township in 1984, in the acquisition of North Ambergris for San Pedro, and in providing land for San Pedro by way of San Pedrito, Ambergris Bay, Colonia San Diego and even land for the now fully functional new marina.

Most recently Johnny was instrumental in helping Standard Bearer Mel Spain obtain funding for the San Pedro High School Auditorium. The San Pedro PUP Executive body tells us it is very proud to have supported Johnny and very pleased with his election as new PUP Party Leader as they see him unifying the party, following the footsteps of PUP founder George Price, and a person really caring for the Belizean people. Briceño has promised San Pedro that when he forms the new government Belize Rural South will also have a recommended citizen appointed into the Senate.

An excited and thankful Briceño has already begun the PUP unifying process as he has already embarked in embracing Mark Espat and Cordel Hyde who have promised full support for his success as leader. Francis Fonseca who was only short of 20 votes behind Johnny has also expressed his full support for Johnny to ensure his success as leader and as the next prime minister of Belize under a PUP government.

In a highly spirited convention where political maturity and conventional wisdom prevailed, the PUP has emerged united and strong ready to help its supporters countrywide and to serve the needs of the rank and file, the grassroots of this nation.
