Dia De San Pedro Festivities & Fishing Tournament
This past weekend thousands came out to the old football field fair ground to celebrate the Dia de San Pedro yearly activities. And although the opening night was cancelled due to inclement weather the fun did commence on Friday, June 27, with Belizean Culture at its best sponsored by Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation, Hon. Manuel Heredia Jr.
The night kicked off with the great musical rendition of the Pantempters Steel Band followed by a presentation by Miss San Pedro 1993, Mrs. Yoli Rivero. Mrs. Rivero recited a story about San Pedro written by Miriam Graniel (when she was in Std VI). The crowd was then delighted with a 45 minute presentation by The Belize National Dance Company.
On Saturday, June 28, fun continued with a special presentation by Miss San Pedro Angela Alamilla along with members of the San Pedro Dance Company. The Town Council prepared a fun-filled night with presentations by the San Pedro Dance Company, Grupo de Danza Mexicana Nicte-Ha and Mexican Singer Luis Felipe Perez. At midnight there was a grand fireworks display followed by an all night music and dance by Island Explosion.
On Sunday, June 29, a grand beach party was held on the Caliente/Pier Lounge beach with music by DJ Debbie. The culmination of the Dia de San Pedro Fishing Tournament attracted many people to the beach party and were anxiously waiting for the results of the event. And so another Dia de San Pedro Festivities came to an end. Long Live San Pedro!
