Belizean 4th on Hurdles

The 3rd Ponce Grand Prix was held on Saturday May 16, 2009 at the Paquito Montaner Stadium in Ponce, southern Puerto Rico where Jonathan Williams ran the 400m hurdles for the country of Belize.

The Ponce Grand Prix is one of a select group of Area meetings at which points can be acquired by athletes to qualify for the IAAF / VTB Bank World Athletics Final, to be held on September 12-13 in Thessaloniki, Greece.

Jonathan Williams, an American living in Los Angeles whose parents are born Belizeans, ran against top athletes like 2004 Olympic silver medalist Danny McFarlane from Jamaica, Javier Culson from Puerto Rico and Reuben McCoy of the USA and placed 4th place with 50.58 seconds.

Jonathan Williams as a child got yelled a lot by his mother when he was a kid but not because he was in trouble, but because he was always running to his room, into the kitchen, across the yard and down the street. She would always be saying to him to slow down and luckily he didn’t.
