Police are Abusive

Dear Editor,
Saturday nights in San Pedro Town are always busy especially this past weekend as San Pedro was celebrating its Patron St. Peter. As we all know the Police Department should be patrolling around making sure everything is in order when it comes to crime such as fights. Nevertheless, this Saturday a police officer was involved in the drama in front of Jaguar’s Temple Night Club. We all know that that is the place where most of the fist fights occur because of people over drinking leading to arguments between them; however somehow this Saturday it was a police officer who was in most of the fights with local residents from the island including a woman. Who does this police officer think he is? Just because he has a jacket saying he is a police means he can be abusing of people however he feels like. This is not only seen with this precise person but with most if not all of San Pedro’s policemen. They pick up on people who can do nothing for what the way they are treated. Policemen are some coward hooligans who abuse of local people causing the violence of the island worse than it already is. What thing is this? They should be helping in preventing and stopping these types of incidents to occur but instead they are the ones who are doing it. San Pedro is already dangerous and with the police men already involved with this who should we the concerned people call to stop this corruption from occurring?

The police here in belize are not trained properly nor do they get paid enough. This leads to corruption !

I can say that 15yrs or so ago , I felt very very safe. Police where visable, they "walked" the streets and stopped at resorts to ck things out. Now they sit behind a desk or ride around at fast speed may I add.

If the gov't officials held the Capt . and officers responsible for the area's they work, perhaps we would have less crime.

Go back to asking  folks at the docks for ID, where they work and live etc, bet half the boat load would be sent back.

The recent attack on caye Caukler is just one crime than should not have happened.Folks will start to defend themselves. Please wake up Town Board and Prime Minister....

Want a safe Belize !!!

who ever wrote this lettter should go back to school n re educate themselve. most importantly there are two sides to every story. so before people start judging get the facts straight. and before you start complaining try to work the occupation of that which you are complaining.

I think that San Pedro is a very contributing and generous place, and we deserve better policemen here and also the minister or area rep should take a look at!

We need to have better police enforcement on the island.... i.e with more better character

Concern San Pedro Resident.

it is true... the policemen on the island are worth nothing... the other day I called to complain about this guy who was wandering up and down the premises close to where I work.  They said that they will be there in a few mins.  they never did show up.  I called twice and they told me the same thing!!! they are patetic police men who just pick on people who they know wont do nothing bout it.... sorry for the lannguage but I am pissed off with the police here on the island.  Now going back to my complaint... they polce never showed up,  the following day,  Carts Belize near the RC school got broken into.  I was so mad because if they would atleast come by and talk to this guy or done something about it.  It could have been prevented.

Very Angry...

In all fairness I know of one oficer who is an very good one, but will not mention his name for fear that the others will pick on him.
