Did You Hear the Tsunami Siren?

Residents come out as they hear the Tsunami Alarm
As part of the National Emergency Management Organization of Belize (NEMO) Emergency Awareness Week, a Tsunami Threat Exercise was held in San Pedro. On Saturday, May 28, the San Pedro Fire Department sounded the alarm through the streets of San Pedro Town. This was a practice in case there is a Tsunami threat for Belize. Did you hear the alarm/siren? What can the Emergency Committee to different to better their service? LEAVE YOUR COMMENTS BELOW!

When was this supposed to be?  I live in DFC Marina Drive and would have been surfing with the Tsunami by the time we got any alerts!!!  Here is a suggestion.  NEMO get in contact with Digicell and Smart phone companies, send and immediate alert through messages!!!  A phone, today is something that some of us go to sleep with, so you would loose less if anything by alerting everyone through a message system.

And you should conduct more meetings for awareness, TV, Newspaper, Radio, Flyers!! This is something worth spending on!!!!

Don't you think????

I did not hear any sirens, much less did I know that there would be a Tsunami drill taking place that day. It is extremely essential that if not all, at least the majority of the residents become aware of Tsunami warnings. Especially now that there have been so many earthquakes all over the globe, that we should always be alert for such warnings. There should be a well thought out plan of action (if we ever find ourselves in such predicament) that would help save as many residents as possible considering the time there is to prepare for such a catastrophe. These drills need to be taken seriously, and NEMO can start by educating schools and businesses, because unlike hurricane warnings, this type of disaster does not give us enough time to leave the island. They should also announce the date and time of the Tsunami Drill pobably through radio and newspaper advertisements and really encourage all residents to take it seriously and take all necessary precautions, although it is just a drill.

How stupid is this, Why use the siren that is used like 70% of the time for parades and festivities and 30% of the Time for what its meant to be used for, especially for such a emergency alert.....There  should be a distinctive sound of alert people to hear when TSUNAMI is coming!!!!

Have they though about alerting Schools if they are in school hours?

I heard it but it was because I was expecting it. I live on front street and when it passed on Middle street I could bearly hear it but I had all the tvs off so I could hear it. When it passed Front street I heard it so fast and it sounded like police sirens. Police puts thoses sirens when they are in a hurry to go somewhere "personal". They sould do something else because it didn't work.
