Who is Don Juan Carnaval?

Carnival has been celebrated since the 1930’s in the humble village of San Pedro and the idea has always been the same - to continue the festive spirit that Don Juan Carnaval once founded. Supposedly he was a rich personality who used to break many women’s hearts and had dozens of girlfriends and concubines.

By now you are realizing that San Pedro is a product of immigrants. We have traced all the way to 1200 to the days of the Mayas and then to 1848 when the Mestizos immigrated to the Island. From there it was just over one hundred years that the community of San Pedro remained a closed community with Mestizo families coming from Mexico and Corozal.
