San Pedro, Ambergris Caye Still Retains Its Island Charm
A few months back I posted an article disclaiming a line that a lot of people like to use: “San Pedro is too Expensive”. Compared to my travels in other areas, vacationing in San Pedro/Belize is not very expensive but rather quite affordable for that matter.

My Views on Mayoral Debate San Pedro Town Council
Ladies and gentlemen, voters of San Pedro, Ambergris Today is pleased to offer you an unbiased analysis of the Mayoral Debate held last night with the view of helping out those in the debate, in the planning and in the processes of making their decisions for Elections 2012.

Clear Skies and Crystalline Waters in Belize
I am not one to make resolutions as the New Year approaches; never been into them as I believe that we do not need the New Year as an incentive to do something positive for ourselves. But I applaud those who stick to the resolutions they set for themselves; a change for the positive is always good.

Is the End Near, Maya 2012?
With the coming of the end of the Maya calendar on 12.21.12 much hype and attention is being given to the year 2012 and the Maya Civilization. It is great to see that the Maya of Belize, Mexico and Central America are getting the attention that they deserve.

How to Shoot Like a Pro
Mary Bartnikowski, an award winning pro-photographer for 25 years and author from California has led programs at Stanford, Apple Computer, Intel and worldwide for humanitarian foundations and her own photography workshops. She is a great person and we have become great friends in the very short time that we have met and gotten together.

My Lunch with a Humble Maya Family
Reading Belize Road Warrior Norbert Figueroa’s posts about making Maya Chocolate and visiting Maya villages in southern Belize made me recall a very special moment during my adventures in the Toledo District a couple years ago.

Central Park Turns to Street? Ridiculous!
Okay, I told myself that I would fight this until the end just like I did with traffic on the beach, as I find it absurd that our town officials allow this. I know that we do not have eyes on the back of our heads and that the Town Council is under staffed and cannot handle everything at once, but this one is too obvious even a blind man can see it.

Three Hour Coffee Break with Mary
Meeting Mary Bartnikowski was like a breath of fresh air. She called me to meet for coffee at Café Cubano last week. She was told that I was the person to meet in San Pedro. (Thanks to a few great friends who had so much good things to say about me; you know who you are). But I was very flattered, since I would consider meeting her a privilege.

Top 5 Island Desserts in San Pedro, Belize
A while back I posted my Top 10 Island Dishes and it got me thinking off all the delicious desserts that went along with those fantastic meals. Needless to say, the island chefs are Sweet Genius in their own right!

Ambergris Today Online 1st Anniversary
Chatter on the blogs and message boards predicted a short run for Ambergris Today as we switched our services from a weekly news print to a daily online service with blog type articles of San Pedro, Belize and up to day news articles. Today is our one year anniversary of Ambergris Today Online and I am proud and happy to announce that we are stronger than ever.

A Look Back at Hurricane Keith
History Repeats Itself - We are seeing that hurricanes mimic other tracks of other hurricanes in the past and experts use this information to help them forecast the track of today’s hurricanes. But one observation that was brought to my attention was on Facebook by posts from two friends.

Where The Hell Is Belize?
This is the age old question that has been out there for years. I remember printing T-shirts with my dad when I was about 10 with this quote on the back that he sold to gift shops. The funny thing is, people are still asking the same question – “Where the Hell is Belize?”

A Closer Look at Independence Day Parade
While I was going through the 1000 plus pictures of the San Pedro Independence Day Parade I was totally taken aback by the amazing costumes in this year’s floats. I did not have time to notice when I was taking pictures and winding amongst all the parade revelers; I guess I was too busy trying to capture the energy and spirit of the people.

Belizean Products I Can’t Live Without
Enjoyed my vacations! Without a doubt had a great time away from home and it was a great break from life’s routine at work and on the island. But it’s impossible to take away home from the heart and mind, especially when you get used to a product or service.

Come on San Pedro its September Already!
The San Pedro Town Council “Di Lamp Up!” It’s September 6 already and I barely see any September/Patriotic decorations around town! When politics or conventions come around the entire town is doused with red, blue and white, why not now when we need to show it the most.

Who said San Pedro is Expensive?
Whoever said that San Pedro is expensive is crazy! As a tourist destination Ambergris Caye is very affordable. My traveling feet took me to "Sin City" Las Vegas this past week as I took a week off from work. Boy it was great! It was my first visit to the famous strip where entertainment is top notch and the experience is one-of-a-kind.

Can You “Go Slow” the Caye Caulker Way?
My Travelling Feet took me to Caye Caulker a couple weeks back; I believe it had been a year since my last trip to the Isla Cariñosa. Waiting for our boat to take me back home to Ambergris Caye, I sat at the foot of the dock taking in the village life of the island. It was Saturday afternoon, Rainbow Grill and Bar was packed with tourists but the rest of the island was quiet.

Costa Maya Rivals Easter Weekend in San Pedro
If you were home locked up for the weekend and not enjoying the Costa Maya Festival in San Pedro you did not see the herds of people, I mean thousands, who invaded the Island just because of the lure of the festival. I believe that Costa Maya weekend was as good, or even better (more packed) than Easter weekend.

Heavenly San Pedro!
One of the greatest adventures that I have ever experienced during my wonderful time with Ambergris Today definitely has been soaring high above our beautiful island on Toucan Fly’s ultra light aircrafts. Anyone can tell you that flying over our gorgeous island and viewing the waves crashing onto the Great Barrier Reef is nothing short of spectacular!

Fishermen’s Mass at Dia de San Pedro
I got up at 3am today! It had been a few years since I had made it to the boat procession during the Dia De San Pedro celebrations, so this morning I decided to partake in the event. But it also dawned on me that all my life I had not been to the morning Fishermen/Gentlemen's Mass.

Do You Tweet?
I created a Twitter account for Ambergris Today at the time when it started to become popular in the US. San Pedro had already started to get into Facebook and that was the talk of the town. “Do you have a Facebook account?” was always part of a normal conversation.

I'm Ready for Lobster Season!
Just those two words get my mouth watering! Lobster Season! YUM! But I must admit that I was not a big lobster fanatic until I began judging at the Lobsterfest’s Best Dish competition. I have had the privilege of being invited to judge for the past couple of years now and have come to sample almost all the Lobster Dishes imaginable! Nawh!!! There’s gotta be more out there for me to try.

Are We Throwing Money Away?
Frustrated once again with Mega Bingo! Not getting even close to winning, and I see winners every week. But the jackpot is still there, and climbing. Yet I still continue playing, because let’s face it, winning the lottery is everybody’s dream.

Belize’s rich cultural diversity gives our country a unique position in the culinary market. New flavors arise from the infusion of all these different spices and great ingredients from the different cultures. Discovering these new flavors is what makes us so attractive to visitors who come to experience Belize.

Who Likes Living Among Filth Anyway?
From time to time, here at Ambergris Today, we get the occasional email from tourists who are very concerned about garbage on the island. They comment about the amount of trash, debris and litter that lies along our beautiful beach. They express how bad it looks for our island.
